The CNC Cutting & Engraving Production Process
Material Selection: We use Cast Acrylic (GS) when possible, as it cuts cleaner than extruded acrylic (XT) which can become gummy and prone to re-weld. Thickness & color of acrylic sheet depends on clients need.
Tool Selection:
- Cutting: We use a Solid Carbide O-Flute End Mill (single flute) with an up-cut spiral. This geometry is designed to clear chips efficiently and reduce heat.
- Engraving: We use a sharp 60° or 90° V-bit for detailed surface work.
Material Securing: We ensure that the acrylic sheet must be firmly secured (e.g., via a vacuum table or mechanical clamps) to prevent vibration (chatter), which causes chipping and poor edge finish.
Speeds & Feeds Optimization
- Spindle Speed (RPM): High to ensure a clean shearing action.
- Feed Rate (IPM/mm/min): Fast to keep the tool from dwelling, reducing friction-generated heat.
Cutting Proocess :
- Ramping: The tool should ramp (gradually plunge) into the material rather than plunging straight down to prevent chipping and stress fractures.
- Pass Depth: Use multiple, shallow passes (e.g., half the bit diameter or less). This is better than one deep pass for heat management and edge quality.
